#Black Lives Matter

In class, we watched a film about the growing social movement Black Lives Matter. While the movement began as a simple hash tag on social media it has sparked a nation wide movement in the African-American Community. By spreading quickly through social media, African-Americans began to use resource mobilization in order to rally thousands if not hundreds of thousands into their movement. As they continue to grow they began to establish themselves as chapters in various cities throughout the country and began to make frame certain issues centering on African-Americans. As they frame their issues, such as police brutality or poverty they began to make political demands. Now they have used both framing theory and political opportunity theory in order to get their message across. Today the movement continues to gain attention. With the coming presidential election in November they have continued to put pressure on politicians, showing how political opportunity is allowing them to have their voice heard and demands met.
