Movie discussion
To raise awareness about the issues of injustice about any cause or issue in need of reform. Social movement would have utilized mediums such Facebook, and other form of social media that is almost free to anyone with electronic device. Web base information can be very effective in connecting people, but there got to be an incentive for people to come join and participate as a collective. The experience to join a group of people to see a movie aim to address a particular issues of injustice is by far more different than going to the movie theater to see a movie with a bunch of stranger. Often many of the people in the group know each other and is the perfect time to socialize with friend of other friends. People seems more receptive and approachable when they are introducing by friends. The plan of the movie was get people to come and eat and enjoy a good time in a friendly environment. The members in our group were encourage to bring family and friend to participate of a public discussion; share ideas and become more inform about the issues and be in solidarity.
The movie that I witness was about the movement to end food insecurity. The movie was about a couple who lives in Berkley, California. The message was pretty simple; it was about the economic inequality of families who depends on welfare income as the only means of supporting their family. The married couple device a plant to demonstrate the myth of social welfare. Because it seems there are many who believe that the government gets on the way of progress by providing food to the poor. The challenge for the couple was to live for one week on $57.00 dollars. The movie chronicle the experience of a highly educated couple who research healthy food and cheap food, it turns out that healthy food is by far more expensive when compare to the cheap food that we often eat everyday. It was surprising to see how some forms of food which are cheaper. Mostly food with high contents of salts and sugars. While the healthiest food such as vegetables, eggs, and milk, or other food that are not subsidies tend to be more expensive. The message of the movie was pretty clear, half way thru the week the couple had spent most of the $57.00 dollars, along with most of the food. By the end of the experiment they had exhausted every thing even the food. Showing that the many people who depends on welfare do not have a choice to eat unhealthy food. Because the cheapest form of food is most lasting for families in this country, many of the people who eat it tend to be overweight and endure stereotypes as lazy. Which is a big part of the stigmatization in forcing poor families to endure hunger. The movie toward the end of the experiment the couple consulted with a doctor to check on their them. The surprising thing was that the doctor said that they had lost some weight, more alarming part was that if the couple had continue eating the way they did, over a longer period of time they would had lost weight, which could compromise their immune system.
The discussion of the movie to end hunger insecurity was an open forum. In which people could talk about the most surprising or shocking things in the movie. It seem that for many the people in the room. Food insecurity is a big problem in the United States! Members in the audience ask critical questions such as the location for the movie, as well about the government effectiveness and political intervention required to make the changes in the system. The purpose of the movement for raising awareness to end food insecurity was effective and show the disparity the poor is force to endure.
