Chalking on Campus
I mean c'mon, who doesn't like chalking? It's pretty much a protestors dream as far as spreading the word is concerned. The environment is harmed in no way, the drawing wears out after a day or two, and it's a unique and effective way to get a message out to the public. As it pertains to this class, chalking is an ideal way to frame messages and mobilize resources. As it pertains to our group, we actually brought in an outside artist to give our artistically challenged group a helping hand with our ideas. Shout out to Lana's boyfriend!!! Since our group was trying to raise awareness for animal rights we decided to draw a couple pictures of animals such as cute little puppies and kitties. You're heartless if you don't like puppies and kitties. We also spread the word about the lovely grannies that came and helped us out. I think they were a combination of impressive with a slight hint of awkward. Never the less the raging grannies helped us out a lot.
To be fair it's really hard to critique chalking but I do wish the chalk lasted longer on the concrete. Nothing we can really do about that but I guess an improvement would have been to go back and re-color the drawings a day later. Essentially, spend two days on chalking but it should be each groups responsibility to go back and re-color. Aside from that; chalking is fun, cheap, harmless to the environment, grabs attention, and is a perfect way to spread a message. I also think we should have chalked around campus more. What I mean is; all groups pretty much chalked in the same area, had we chalked spread out around campus more than I believe we would have attracted more people to the tables and each groups message would have been more clear and concise.
