March forth on March Fourth

On March 4th, 2016 we organized as a class for multiple causes and took to the campus of Fresno State to raise awareness. As a class we picked various causes such as animal rights, inequality, sex trafficking amongst others. For many of us this was our first experience participating in anything like this and I must admit, I had my reservations. We broke up into groups and and picked a cause that we felt passionate about. Once our groups were established we had to figure out the best way to get attention to our cause. We decided that making signs was going to be the best way to draw attention to ourselves while we were marching. At the end of the day, you can't march without signs because no one will know what the hell you are marching for. So we proceeded to make many many signs that illustrated or represented our cause in one way or another. Some signs had symbols that people could interpret and some signs outright said what the cause was (in our case; animal rights).

As for what could have been done better. Looking at the march from a birds' eye perspective I imagine we look like something like a washing machine of issues where all of our voices combine into one. Now I know this was done for educational purposes designed to teach us about protesting and to make us feel more comfortable. Ideally a protest has one cause and one common, clear voice. I imagine our protest looked a little confusing for spectators so that's one thing I would change or improve. As a class we should decide on one issue and focus on that. I feel like we would really make a huge impact for that particular issue, instead we slightly touched on multiple issues but I don't think we made such a huge impact like we all would have liked.
