Tactic 3 – Tabling
Our group, "A Helping Hand for the Hungry" set a table on the free speech area to raise awareness of our cause which is hunger/food insecurity. This event which was held on March 4th consisted of our entire class setting up tables for each of their group topics. We prepared flyers, posters and signs in order to publicize our cause and be ready for the march afterwards. We tried to make our posters and signs simple an easy to read because most people were that we encountered were on their way to class and unable to stop and let us inform them about our cause. It was hard to communicate our cause to the students because most were in a hurry to get to class. As a group we found that we had to be as brief as possible and only inform the most serious issues about our cause. We provided statistics of hunger in Fresno as well as the rest of the country. There were food available as well as other fun activities for the students, which might explain the success of the event. We also found that many of the students that approached our table were people that we already knew. Many of the people that we spoke to did not know about the severity of hunger and food insecurity in not only Fresno but also the country as a whole. I enjoyed this event because it was very fun and it allowed our group to talk directly to people to inform and possibly change their perceptions about our cause. I think this event had a great outcome not only for our group but also for the rest of the groups and social movements, regardless of the limited time that we had to speak to the students, I think that we informed the students at least about the key points of our cause.
