Movement Tactic: Chalking
My group, "fighting for paws" and I decided to do some chalking in the free speech area at Fresno State. We thought this location would be perfect since majority of the students walk through this area to get to the library. We did research on animal abuse statistics and decided to chalk on the ground these statistics. We decided to inform those students about our instagram page, which provides pictures with information about where you can fine a no kill shelter for animals abandon. We also wanted to inform others about the breed-specific legislation, also know as BSL This is a law that bans people from being able to walk specific kinds of breeds that are considered to be "dangerous". This law requires that dogs must be muzzled in public. Dogs do not have to be a fully kind of breed but if they look like they are dangerous they will be forced to follow these new laws regulations. The main dogs that are being targeted are pit bulls, bulldogs and other dogs that may appear to be dangerous. People are against this new law for many reasons such as it being too costly, require each dog to be identified as a breed which can be difficult, punish responsible owners and does nothing for those irresponsible owners. My grouped and I chalked on the ground websites that students can find more information about this law. As we were chalking many students stopped and read what we were writing, some students even asked what is BSL, I informed them what it was and they was surprised to hear about it. I feel as if we did get our message out on not only animal abuse but also on other topics many people are not aware of. We were able to inform new information to students throughout campus.
