Tactic 2-Movie
For one of our tactics, our group "A Helping Hand for the Hungry" presented a documentary called A Place At the Table on May 1st in room I.T. 101. We chose this film because it informed the audience about the issue of hunger and food insecurity caused by poverty. The documentary provided information on how there is a relationship between malnutrition, food insecurity, obesity, and poverty. This film allowed us to inform the audience on the severity of the problem of food insecurity and hunger in this country. In order to advertise our movie event, we went out on campus as a group and chalked the information including the title of the documentary, the time and date, and the location. We also each printed several flyers and hanged them around campus including the social sciences building, the library, and the Student Union. A couple of the group members were also able to hand out the flyers to students personally. Although the majority of the group showed up to the movie event, very few people from outside our group came through. The discussion after the movie was very short in part because not to many people were there to actually respond. Overall, I don't think this tactic helped raise awareness or changing the opinion of the people in regards of the seriousness of the hunger and food insecurity issue because not to many people were informed by the documentary. A couple of ways that we could have brought more people in to the event would have been by advertising more and with more time in advance; by making the flyers stand out more and hanging more around as well as handing more out personally. Also we could have brought more friends ourselves that way the awareness if the seriousness of the issue would spread more. Although the outcome of this tactic was not as expected, I did personally enjoy this documentary.
