The first article I choose to write about would be about the global protest of the Olympic Sochi games. In the article"Celebration Capitalism & the Olympics": Global Protests Mark Approach of Sochi Games", the article discusses how this is the most expensive winter games they have had by far. The president of the winter games has spent over 50 billion dollars on the event. The results of these games had lead citizens of the country Russia involvements in boycotts and criticism. Not only has these affected the people in Russia but it has also impacted the attention of people worldwide. The up rise is also due to the spreading of propaganda that is said to be gay targeting towards children. People are experiencing issues with the propaganda which is also adding to the controversies of the winter games. As a result protests and boycotts are being held. I thought that this was an interesting subject because it seems like people are more focused on the "gay propaganda" rather than all the money that is being spent on entertainment when it could be gong other places more important and useful to citizens.

The second article on social movements that striked my attention would be "The Day We Fight Back: Activism Sweeps the Internet with Global Action Against Mass Surveillance".The article discusses how the government and its mass surveillance with citizens. It discusses a website that encourages people to fight against the government and fight for our right of privacy. This includes people contacting their members of congress in the hopes of improving and passing surveillance reform legislation. I thought that this article was interesting because if we all work together I believe that we can make a difference in this matter. It is also a tricky subject because we actually never really know if the government is watching us or not. It is scary to think that they can monitor into our personal life such as listening into our phone calls are having access to our social media. Hopefully we can find a better way to fight for our right of privacy.
