Democracy Now!

For this weeks assignment we had to look up two articles on Democracy Now, there were two articles that interested me because they really had to do with misled coverage from the media from our CIA. It was called "Senate Report Finds CIA Exceeded Legal Authority, Misled Media on Torture", reports on the CIA torture program have questioned the programs legal framework and manipulation on the media. The CIA doesn't disclose all of their information to the public, which is alarming because they are once that are suppose to be protecting the public from invaders. The CIA issued incorrect claims about detainees and held interrogation techniques that were inaccurate. They actively avoided or impeded oversight by Congress and the Justice Department and its own inspector general ignore internal critiques. The Senate Intelligence Committee has voted to declassify the conclusions and other sections of the report not but before they are reviewed y the CIA.

Another interesting article in which I read was called "Department of Justice: Most Fatal Shooting by Albuquerque Police were Unconstitutional", the department has faced scrutiny for the killing of James Boyd, a homeless man who appeared to be surrendering before police officers aimed fire at the mentally ill man. There will be changes to policies and trainings, including better procedures to the mentally ill. There are also reports about abuses involving tasers, stun guns, which also involved a 75-year old man being tased refusing to leave the bus station; another incident when a man was kicked repeatedly and being developmentally disabled man who was unable to speak; tased a 16-year old boy who refused to lie on a floor covered in broken glass and another incident that police tased a man who had poured gasoline on himself who set himself on fire. There seems to be incidents of police brutality and the justice system doesn't do anything about it. Events like this shouldn't be happening, police officers swear to protect our community but it doesn't seem like they are helping those who need it.
