NORTH CAROLINA GOVENER ISSUES ORDER AFTER PROTEST AGAINST ANTI-LGBT LAW

Govener Pat MCrory of South Carolina has set an order towards the anti-lgbt laws. This pretty much refrains from any transgendered persons from using the bathroom that identify with their gender. Denying certain rights to a group of people because of their identity is the biggest form of racism. Being that we are in such a crucial era amongst equal rights, MCcrory has only helped backtrack towards equality. A very large protest has broken out, forcing MCcrory to respond. He claims he is now "taking action" towards fighting for equality due to the negative feedback he recieved. The framing action used here has helped gained attention not only towards the transgendered community, but also towards the negative actions taken by McCrory. The protest helped gain the attention towards an on going issue of keeping a conservitive society (boys=blue, girls=pink, etc.). With the help of ongoing protesters, McCrory was forced to "change" his view points/actions. Even if he does not follow through with his words, it definitely got the media buzzing.

MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR KILLING TRANS WOMAN ISLAN NETTLES
A man in Brooklyn is sentenced to 12 years after killing a transgendered woman back in 2013. James Dixon brutally attacked the woman, Islan Nettles, after finding out she was born a male. He knocked her down and continued to beat her while she layed on the ground. I believe it was his own insecurities that caused him to do this being that at first he approached the woman in a flirtacious manner. Nettles later died in the hospital due to head injuries. This has caused a series of protests fighting for the trans community. Although we lost an innocent individual, her murder helped shine light on the topic. This can be looked at as a political opportunity. One person's loss has allowed room for these activists to gain more attention and has given them even more of a reason to continue fighting for what they believe in.
