Event 4: Movie

For this event my team and I chose to show a movie called, "He Named Me Malala." The movie is about a 17 year old girl named Malala Yousafzai who was shot by the Taliban advocating for girls right to education in Pakistan. I did give out a notice to other people to come and watch, but sadly they couldn't make it. Although I only stayed for an hour of the movie I really enjoyed the courage that this young woman displayed. I can see that she is still a young woman that still enjoys having fun with her brothers and everyday activity that a 17 year old teenager would be doing. There was a part of the movie that really caught my attention, and that one part was when Nigerian citizens called Malala to help with acquiring the kidnapped daughters of the citizens of Nigeria. As they cried and pleaded Malala for help she said that she wasn't sure what she was able to do, because she was just one person. Even though she did feel that way she still spoke to the leader of Nigeria and voiced her opinion, which I felt was more than enough help. I feel that her motivational speech on education for every child in the world is very powerful, because it reveals that the voice is a powerful weapon. I'm happy to see that Malala's father influenced her to become the way she is now as a person. There was not that many people at the movie event, but for the people that showed up I hope that this movie is an inspiration to advocating for equality and change. I wished I could've stayed longer to watch the entire movie, but just that first hour really helped me see the determination and ability of one person can have.
