Democracy Now #8
In Iraq, hundreds of protestors have gathered together at the Parliament building and staged an overnight occupation at Celebration Square on Saturday. They came together to protest the growing amount of corruption of the Iraq government and the change of government officials that needs to take place in Parliament. A woman took the stage prior to ending to the occupation and end to conclude their protest by stating, "if the demands are not meant, we will take over by all legitimate means or continue with civil disobedience or go on strike". While this is taking place ISIL carried out two suicide bombers killing 32 people. The protestors are gathering using resource mobilization, gathering hundreds of people in order to have their demands met. In addition to resource mobilization, they are also drawing on political opportunity demanding that the politics be changed in their country.
A continued story out of Brazil this week, President Dilma Rousseff has been removed from office and is being impeached. This is taking place currently, but Brazil corrupt and unstable government has been leading up to the current deconstruction of current politicians in office. The claim against Rousseff is she tampered with accounts in order to hide budget shortfalls. While Rousseff is being impeached it has sparked massive protests across Brazil defending President Rousseff. She claims the impeachment is a coup in order to take control of Brazil. Protestors have chained themselves Brasilia's Planalto Palace in support of President Rousseff. They have issued statements stating "coup leaders are usurping Brazils democracy" and they will only be removed from the Palace by force. These proestors are using resource mobilization in order to stop the coup. They're garnering thousands of Brazilians to stand up for democracy. They're also using framing theory to get their message across to the people of Brazil in order to gather everyone to stand together.
