FOOD AWARENESS EVENT

My last event I attended to complete my 5 things that have to do with my topic which was FOOD FOR ALL. I attended to a presentation in my community about food awareness they do it once a month about how much people need food. This is organized by a church with the help of the community bank making it a successful ever month. Many people tell the volunteer people there stories of their needs and the community tries to gather food and help those families in need. This Christian church gets donations from all the stores around Kerman that want to donate food, vegetables or anything they want to help. I was never aware that they accepted volunteers to collect the food from the stores and pack them as well, but they do. They first hear suggestions of what the community can do to expand this food pantry we can say with the help of the community bank and the community. I thought it was interesting because many people tell them their stories which some that I heard were very touching. Along the way that I was there I notice that they are all very friendly and they help each other. Some explain their techniques too of how they made their food last longer. Some even shared information of other places they can go and receive food for low income families. That day I went I though was well organized because they even had some tables where volunteers were taking care of the kids that their parents go take to this event. This helped because more people attended. Another good thing about this event was that also PG&E was there too. They shared some of their programs that helped low income families. For me this was all new and helpful because I was not aware that PG&E had a program to help low income families. They can provide them with new window at home, light bulbs, refrigerator, and even a stove that helps them waist less light which I thought that was very helpful without a cost. I think event like this should be everywhere because it helps a lot of low income families get informed. They can also take advantages of programs where they can be informed about food nutrition and programs that can help them. This programs I think overall, help at least my community know that they are not alone because people share their stories and they all help each other out.
