March 4th Event
Part of taking a Social Movement course is learning how to protest. For this spring semester our Social Movement class had the opportunity to march at a March 4th event. So, on Friday, March 4th our class along with other classes and clubs met out in the Free Speech area to assemble this event. My group, also known as, Free All Bodies (F.A.B.) chose human trafficking as a topic. Our goal as a group was to bring awareness to this social issues that, slavery isn't over and that it is now known as modern-day slavery. This March 4th event was a great opportunity, along with other groups, to bring awareness by protesting around campus, for all the social issues that affect our society. There were many other groups there as well protesting and bringing awareness to, "Food for All," "Equality for All," "Dump Trump," and "Adopt Don't Shop." Having a good turnout of people uniting for different causes, but still chanting for our cause made me feel that, no matter what the issue is, if there is an injustice there will always be others willing to protest with you for that justice. Also, one of my favorite moments was finally being able to see the Raging Grannies. Dr. Kubal kept mentioning them in class of how cool these ladies sing about political issues and "oh boy," was he right! The Raging Grannies were really cool to hear and watch. They were definitely not a disappointment.
