Detroit Teachers Return to Work After 2-Day Mass Sickout

When teachers learned that the district may not have enough funds to pay them by the end of the year, teachers agreed on a sickout strike. After 2 days, the Detroit's teacher union had recommended teachers come back to work. Almost of all the district's 97 schools suffered a funding shortfall. The "sickout" strike also created protests against other ongoing issues in the district such as rat infestations, black mold, along with other compelling conditions. The framing approach here was that all teachers agreed to call out sick on the same day, causing a mass number of teachers not showing up. This affected the district in such a negative way they asked the teachers to come back as well as assuring them that they now have sufficient funds to pay them. This sickout approach also resulted in other protests. We can look at this as political opportunity. One issue created an opportunity for others issues to become relevant.

Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas Cancels Show in North Carolina Over Anti-LGBT Law

Canceling huge shows in order to make a point, brilliant. These artists are putting their own careers and pockets on the line in order to show their support towards the LGBT laws. Other corporations and entertainers have also joined this movement, shining more light towards the issue. They are using the resource mobilization theory by using their shows and appearances as a tactic. Since they are also gaining the support of other entertainers, it is evident their approach is making a difference. These people have many fans that look up to them, so just imagine how much support they can gain just through that alone. Of course they may have many upset fans due to their cancelling of shows, but they're definitely making this issue relevant. Cancelling a show can cause a big uproar making it a relevant topic over social media. We all know when something makes it to the media, it'll spread like wildfire. This can leave room for political opportunity, since this is such a huge ongoing issue in the media right now.
