SNARL Movie – Unity
In order to try and spread the word about our movie showing, I created flyers that said, "Pre-game for Earth Day!" with different movie covers from Unity's website and wrote the words "An exclusive screening of the new documentary UNITY" underneath. I hung some of these flyers in various places around campus, such as any open boards I saw, and in the McLane Hall, Family Food & Science, and Speech Arts buildings. I also created an event on Facebook and shared it with some of my friends. Unfortunately, upon arrival we found out that there was no room 122 and had to relocate to a room upstairs. The people who attended the event included Dr. Kubal, the members of SNARL, my boyfriend George, and another student who left during the film. I was glad that the movie shown was switched from Earthlings because this one was still hard to watch at times, but not nearly as hard to watch as Earthlings would have been. After the movie was over we had a discussion and everyone seemed as though they had learned a lot and didn't want to be eating meat anytime soon. I was further convinced about my choice to be vegan and enjoyed learning about the issues from more of a philosophical and spiritual point of view. If we were to have this sort of event again in the future, I would want to do more planning for it further in advance and try to make sure there weren't any other conflicting events going on at the same time. The day that we had this showing was the same night that the Cross Cultural and Gender Center hosted a Yoga session in the South Gym. If I were not apart of this group and I wanted to go to both events, I probably would've chosen to go the Yoga event instead because I could watch the movie later on my own. I would also want to advertise the event more with better flyers for black and white printing and would've called it a movie instead of a documentary, especially since it wasn't presented in a traditional documentary format.
