What a shame it is to lose one of our colleagues like Berta Caceres in her quest for the environment and has an indigenous leader. Also with her death comes at least more than 110th environmentalist killed just in Honduras. Not just that but even Gustavo Castro who was with her when she got shot from the Honduran death squads and got hit with two shots to his body. It's a battle that I feel will continue for years to come. This is because Gustavo is not the only one who is trying to make a difference on the environment in Honduras. Furthermore what he is saying is that its just about the land but its about all the things like the forests, mines, water and indigenous lands which they own but the government just takes what it wants. The death squads are still targeting him. Since they have let him go back to Mexico and now have changed their minds he is being held in jail. However with the help of the Embassy of Mexico he is still in Honduras. He has been having nightmares and feel like they want to kill me just like Berta. There is one positive thing about this and it is that there is still an organization with the indigenous grassroots organization. I am glad that there are still other organizations there in Mexico which are helping to fight the Mexican government in their purse of the their environment. Just like in Mexico there are many challenges, which the indigenous people and their grassroots organization are fighting for like the dams, climate change, mining, and their cultures. Just like here at Fresno State when we did our rally and showed that we can and will make a differences, I feel that the academy in Mexico ands especially in their search for alternatives in their country. In conclusion I feel that when one of our own environmentalist dies or sacrifice their lives for our cause we should all set-up a rally day for them.
