Movement tactic summary 1

The first movement in which my group C.A.P.E (Citizens Advocating for Pre-Trail Expansion) participated in so we can practice different types of movement activism and to draw attention on what we are advocating for was we participated in listening tabling/ writing wall campaign in the free speech area on an event called March Forth on March 4th. What was great about this event was for the different groups that participated in this event was our chance to finally get our issue across the Fresno State campus. Our issue is we want taxpayers and students to be more aware of the bail system and pre-trial expansion program that offers those who are in the jail institution and waiting for a hearing but there in jail for up to one hundred days or more and aren't even offenders. When we were tabling people would come across our table and we handed them flyers and provided important information and flyers that addressed our issue and hoped that they would get others involved and bring our cause to awareness. Our flyers and brochures provided information like what is the problem? What is the solution? And important short statistics that made it very easy and simple to read because it's not easy to understand language form the judicial system. An example from our brochure included "More than 500 felony crimes qualify for realignment", "52,000 offenders no longer serve in state prison by 2013-2014", and "16,417 inmates shifted to local jails in first year alone". All of these statistics are very important because taxpayers are ones who are paying $100 a day per prisoner. When we showed this statistic to Fresno State students they were unaware that this also affects us as students because it means less financial aid money for college students and more taxpayer money into the jail system. Also, some Fresno State students have to pay taxes and they don't want to give their hard earned money back to the jail system when they themselves have to pay for school and not getting any financial aid to help in their education.
