Event #4

During this semester, I had a lot of interruptions when I was supposed to meet with my group for social movement activities so me and another classmate passed out flyers and asked students questions when we had the time during one week. Monday-Friday for 2 hours each day, we went to different places on campus to hand out flyers about our social movement Citizens Advocating for Pre-trail expansion. During the process we went to mclane hall, peters building, science 2 building, speech art, and the music building. The flyers that I made had info on them such as statistics, the mission statement of my social movement group, background info, statistics that would be alarming to individuals and want them to get more involved with our topic, the problem, and the solution. As I asked people questions,  I asked them things such as how they feel about the social movement, what can be done, and if they would get involved in a social movement such as the one I was in. Many people were always in a rush for class so just said they didn't have the time but the people that did stop to talk, have me insights and personal experiences on why they loved the movement I was working on and also how they would get involved with it as well if they were in a social movements class. Few individuals have me a solution that they think would work such as letting people out on bail since jails are overcrowding and if they are in jail for something silly, they should get put on house arrest or probation. Another good thought someone had was lowering costs of bail bonds. I shared to individuals why it is affecting us for example, it costs the taxpayers $100 a day per prisoner. Many people were very supportive and also gave me insights, statistics, and info that I didn't know anything about and I enjoyed learning about. Throughout this experience I learned a good amount of things I didn't know and further learned about things I did know. When I started doing this I was a little nervous, shy, and embarrassed because it was something I have never done but once I got into it, I was handing out flyers left and right and tried to stop people that looked like they had some free time. I definently would do something like this again.
