Iron jawed Angles / Zapatistas

This movie was very exuberating, inspirational and powerful. From start to finish it had me out of my chair. The main character Alice Paul who starts in this movie endured so much solitude and torture for months at a time despite her hardships. Every minute of every day, people like her are connecting with each other through social movements in sharing encouragement, inspiration, and insight. Also she was very persistent in her goals. This was just the beginning for all women in the United States for women rights. In much of the movie they agitated against the denial of basic economic freedom to women.

In both parts of the movie, I did see some militant tactics, picketing, resource mobilization and political process models. Also conducting mass rallies and marches to raise public awareness and support. In this first movie I did notice they were more young women than older ones and that there was a generation gap. I feel that it was due to the upbringing from our culture. The older ones didn't want to get involved with the movement, they are the ones who did want their husbands told them want to do, say and act in public. The older women also felt that they should be at home doing house work or volunteering somewhere to help in the war. With the help of these younger women Alice helped resuscitate this push for federal equal rights amendment. During this time when they were in front of the white house with banners some sailors even got into the action and began to tear down the banners. One final observation is that women are welcome but only as workers but not as co-makers.  In my sociological perspective when I said that no matter want polices the state, or federal make up women for all they numbers will seldom move up to positions of responsibility or power. However those who made it to the top will find that all standards, all methods, all values, continued to be set by white men who in my experience, education and knowledge than blacks or Hispanics.

Zapatistas Marcos

Since 1994 the Zapatista army has been trying to win a war in which there is no end in this so called war. In my view this war has been primarily a defensive one. It seems that he wants to end this war with a democratic space and not by force. However I feel that his ideology of the Zapatista movement is good only when all groups come together. The Zapatistas in accordance with their principle, are not a political party, they instead, wish only to conceptualize the entire system.  Furthermore both of these two individuals, from my perspective is that their social movements are not carriers of extent ideas that grow out of structural arrangement's. They are just actors agents actively engaged in the production of meaning for constituents. What both of them are doing or have done is that to enable to perceive and identify occurrences within their life space and the world around them at large. Lastly both of them in relationships to collective action frames are not aggregations of individual but they also the outcome of negotiating shared meaning will make a difference.
