Social Movements

Mon./Wed. 3:30pm

Towards the end of the event, March Forth on March 4th, each group who participated protested and walked around with picket signs stating their mission.  In our group there are only three people, including myself, so I figured it would only be us three protesting for our cause, but I was wrong. While we were handing out flyers and telling people what our group was all about, people asked if they could make picket signs to protest along with us. It was a large group who all protested together; however, it did have its down sides. Since it was a large group all protesting together, for every cause, it wasn't very organized, so some people might have been confused of what the protest was geared towards. Another thing we could have done better was making the picket signs more readable from far away. If we would have written in dark markers and much bigger, people driving or walking by would have been able to read what they said. Overall, the protest wasn't too bad, my group was able to get more people involved to protest with us but now I know what to do to better prepare ourselves. In order to get better results from the protest we must consider what time of day we protest around campus because at certain hours, most students have finished for the day and have already left home. There are lots of things to consider when protesting for a cause and until protesting with my group I never really thought about that.
