Social Movement tactic 3: Movie

For this social movement tactic we decided to show the movie, A place on the Table. The movie was quite interesting and full of information that only covered a few people dealing with hunger insecurity. I thought the movie was great and very touching. I felt really saddened by these stories because it reminded me of how my family was, and we were a family of ten. I remember that my mom would always have a plate of food for everyone, and my dad was the only one working. He worked in a ranch, doing field work, and his wage was not quite enough for a family of ten. I've always wondered how they got through it. They are an inspiration because now, a family of three has a difficult time getting through. One part of the movie that caught my eye was when the little girl's teacher asked her if her family would like to get a couple bags of food every so often, and she said yes. I remember that there was a Reverend named Albert Kantor. He would help out families in need by providing baskets of food, and every day after school, the kids would get off the bus and walk over to building where he would read to us and pray and he would have snacks. This movie brought back many memories for me that were great, and truly he was an amazing person. i also remember that in the movie a teach gave the kids a honeydew melon, and they ate it and they loved it. Well when I was in third grade my teacher did the same thing but with apples. She took a few kinds of apples and she asked which one was our favorite. I loved all of them and I just remember that they were so good! This movie opened my eyes a little more on the subject because I know that families are struggling every day and they need help whether it is government assistance, or a better job. The problem will not be fixed by charities, or food shelters. We need change and now before it really is too late and we fall into another Great Depression.
