Social Movement Tactic 1: March 4th

During the march on March 4th, my group had mad some poster signs during class that we used, and I have to say I felt great. I knew I was doing something good for the cause. My groups issue is hunger. So we all got together and started walking. There was a lot of people holding signs and ready to walk through the campus. There were other issues such as animal rights, education, sweatshops, etc. We all walked around holding signs with a saying on it, and although there wasn't a lot of people out, we still did it. On one of my signs, I wrote, "Hungry for Justice" and on another I wrote "Fight Against World Hunger". This experience was really good and the class as well because it has inspired me to be a part of a social movement. I want to get involved and do something positive. Some students were saying statistics on their issue as we walked around. As we walked around the campus, I noticed that there was a few people that stopped and tried to read some of the signs. Just with people reading our signs was enough because I know that people are aware that there are issues, but we often forget about them and we don't do anything about it, so when a group of people get together and do this, it just shows that people actually do care but we are so wrapped up in our life that we don't have time to do something like helping out an organization, or doing something positive for our community. When we walked through Shaw, I heard a car honk. That gave us more energy and enthusiasm, and that made some of the students shout in pride about their issue. I am a very shy person so for me to do this was out of the ordinary, but I felt comfortable. I enjoyed making the signs and walking around campus so people can see that these issues exist and that we need to do something about it, and this showed that together we can make a difference. Whether it's a march, a food drive, a sign, a quote, words can be so powerful and can open your eyes just a little bit more. Overall I thought it was very informative and it was great.
