Social Movement Tactic 4: Flyers & Chalking

For the fourth social movement tactic my group used, was passing out flyers, and chalking. We decided that we were going to pass out flyers on our own time. I passed out flyers when we did the tabling and the march. I also did it a few times after that during my short breaks. I passed out the flyers by the science building and by the Professional Human Services building. I also posted them up on the walls of the hallways, of course I had to ask if I could post them because on some, it said restricted posting. I had fun talking to students about the issue on hunger. Some students seemed somewhat in a hurry to get to class while others had great interest. I handed them the flyers and talked about the issue and I asked them a few questions that were on the survey. It was no surprise that most of them did not know many statistics on hunger. They were very shocked and they even looked sad. I felt bad because this issue really gets to me as well. I would really like to help those in need. So while passing out flyers, some students even came up to me and asked more questions about the issue. At first I was embarrassed so I just passed out the flyers, but then I started to ask questions and started telling them some statistics. The chalking was fun but tiring. I tried to shorten up the statistics and I did, but it still took some time.  I also wrote down some of the places where students could help by volunteering, or even if they needed food as well. I did the bulldog pantry, and the church where one of my group member volunteers at. Overall the chalking was great because even though it disappears, students take the time to read them, and if they didn't know what they read, that means they learn something new. This was a great way to raise awareness on the issue and I think it worked. I didn't have time to take pictures because I had to leave to class.
