The movie my group put on was about racism in prison. A couple of things really caught my attention. There was a guy who was incarcerated on July 16th and did not have trail until October. He told his girlfriend not to come visit him and not to bring his daughter because he did not want to be a burden to them. He felt like since he did something and he was in the wrong, he had to deal with it, not his family. He felt like if his family would go visit him it would just cause a lot of pain for them, and that's not what he wanted. Another sense that caught my attention was when the cops were beating up the young black guy. Yea I understand he probably was in the wrong for something, but the cops had no right, no right at all to beat up that poor guy. After they had him in hand cuffs he was not doing anything from from my point of view, yet the group of cops just kept beating him. You could hear people yelling at the cops asking and begging them to stop, but of course they did not stop. Seeing that broke my heart. I do not understand how people could have so much hate and anger to others they do not personally know. Also being a cop you're suppose to protect your citizens, not beat them. I felt so sorry for that young man, and so a shame knowing that our police force would act on racism. They could of killed him, and for what? Because he was black? I found it interesting that the police officers would put some many people in jail, and the jail would keep the incarcerated people for a long period of time and set their bail so high that they were not able to pay it. They just caused the jail to become impacted. Some jails were so impacted that they had to triple cell people. Triple cell is when the jail or prison is over crowded so they have to put three people in on room. The rooms are really only meant for two prisoners. Since prisons were so impacted some people had to sleep on the floor in an open area because they were no beds or room available. I do not get why they set people's bail so high if it is not for something very serious. They should let people go home on bail until their trail day that way people who do serious crimes can be in prison and it not be over crowded. I also found it interesting how when people were asked to describe a drug dealer 95% of people thought of young black men who were in gangs and wore baggy pants where you could see their boxers and only 5% of people thought of white men. Now a days drug dealers are nothing like that. Everyone could be a drug dealer and we would not know it because of the stereotypes from the past
