Event 4 Movie showing: "He named me Malala"

MEW wants equality for women. For our fourth event my group decided to show a movie that illustrates a type of inequality women face in today's world. As many are aware, women endure different types of inequality such as in; education, wages, and the work place. My group chose to show the movie "He named me Malala" because it is recent, and is very inspirational. "He named me Malala" is about a Palestinian girl that fights for equality of education for girls in her country, Pakistan. Girls are not allowed to go to school in her country, so Malala decided to do something about it. Malala was one of few girls that were educated as result of her father teaching her at his own school. Malala's fight for education for girls led to the Taliban shooting her in the face. In a turn of events, Malala survived and continued to speak on behalf of all those girls in her country. After her comeback, Malala decided to speak on behalf of girls from around the world that did not have access to education. She spoke with so much passion and emotion. Malala was very inspirational.

Our event was a success although less than 10 people showed up. The cause for low attendance may be the result that our event took place the same time as another event regarding a mural. Dr. Kubal sent an email to all students regarding the showing of the movie, and I posted on social media the showing time. Dr. Kubal provided Pizza and water. The event was still a success because the few people that did show up enjoyed the movie, and had plenty of comments at the end of the showing. For the most part, all those that attended the event said that Malala was inspirational and had positive reactions to it. I answered some of the questions students had regarding the movie. Overall, it was pizza that made the event even better.
