Seeing odd things going on around campus isn't really out of the ordinary here at Fresno State it is often that we see people protest their beliefs around campus to try and sway students to take their sides. Usually we see those who are overly religious trying to claim that every act we do as students is immoral and we're all going to hell. When I was a Freshman at Fresno State this was pretty odd for me to see and I didnt quite see the point of Fresno State University letting ignorant people who were non students on campus harass and put down students but the free speech area is not just to allow the crazys on campus it is also to get out the words of people who are honestly trying to work towards a good cause, animal rights, womens rights, fighting against the rising tution peace or simply just world peace in general and thats exactly what we did as a sociology class when we put together a protest for any cause that we chose, being in a protest in the middle of campus would be consider out of the social norm in general but this specific protest broke a few more rules. 1. It did not stand for a single cause 2. We did not force a single opinion / cause down peoples throats. Although this protest may not be looked at as life changing or helping anything since it didn't stand for one thing in general it was fun for the students it allowed us as students to stand for a single issue in which we all most felt most passionate about making the expierence life changing for those involved rather than for the people watching which is usually intended for a protest to do. I was expecting people to watch us agree and disagree those to join in with a specific cause they could relate too, but as we walked through campus it was more as if people just stood there trying to soak in what was exactly going on because every sign said something different so students and non students were trying to catch glimpses at as many causes we supported as they could, there was the occasional honk and YEAH! yell as expected although i think its just because they liked the idea of there being a protest around campus, ofcourse there were glares and people looking at as as if we were those people who are pushy and try to stuff our ideas down their throws so they avoided us at all cost and tried to avoid eye contact this just proves the negative thoughts about people whom protest because of how some people choose to do it.
