Drugging America’s Veterans: Painkiller Abuse Spreads as VA Becomes Vets’ "Drug Dealer of Choice" Friday April 4th

This story is about veterans addicted to pain killers. Jeffery Wagner was in the military, and he was sent home after a groin injury when a grenade exploded. He died at home after being discharged from a hospital. He became addicted to pain killers, and the army sent him to a detox center. The hospital continued to give him narcotics. And sent him home with many drugs such as oxycodone. It seems he checked into a motel and had a few beers, then he ate, and as he was returning, he stumbled and fell and was there for about an hour until the paramedics got there.  His father couldn’t believe the amount of drugs being prescribed to his son. He had 8 oxycodone, some muscle relaxers, and tranquilizers that he got from the VA. The VA had done a study about overdose VA patients, and it nearly doubled the national average, and they still continue to give highly addictive pain killers. The addiction often starts when they are in duty. Jeffery became addicted because when he was removed from the injury area, he was given massive amounts of drugs, and so when he recovered, he was sent to rehab, but there, they were still giving him massive amounts of drugs. There were many cases where the VA gave money settlements to families whose loved ones have died due to this. But it is rare to win a settlement. There are more deaths than settlements. There are other side effects of these drugs, like violence, and they are downers. The VA is having alternative therapies instead of giving returning veterans drugs.  There were many things to improve on, for example closer monitoring when veterans are using drugs.

Ex-Auto Safety Head & Parent of Dead Victim: GM CEOs Should Face Prison for Covering Up Safety Flaws Thursday April 3rd

This story was about how two teenage girls died in a car crash in Wisconsin.  They were driving a 2005 Chevy Cobalt. The families wanted to know what had happened. Finally they get answers because the CEO of GM was called to testify over a scandal from recent years. GM has recalled millions of cars after acknowledging faulty ignition switches shut down engines and disabled airbags.  These defects were linked to at least 13 deaths and possibly more because they decided not to fix the problem because it would have made the cost of each car one dollar more. They hid this information and they continually lied under oath. When the accident happened, the car had shut off and they didn’t know the reason. Now that GM has testified about the problem, the families know what happened to their teenagers. The family now has filed a lawsuit. The company has the power to fix problems and they should say the truth in order to prevent accidents to happen. They should be imprisoned because they knew that it was a problem and they decided not to fix it, and cover it up.
