In the Philippines six thousand farmers have joined together to protest against their government demanding rice and food because of the weather conditions el nino has brought. As a result of el nino, their harvest has been destroyed leaving many without food. The farmers gathered in Kidapawan and blocked a major freeway. Police showed up to the protest and shot at unarmed protestors killing three and wounding at least a dozen more. The protestors are using resource mobilization theory. Gathering up thousands of people and protesting making sure the Philippino government knows their demands. Even so, farmer Noralyn Laus spoke out and state they didn't come to make trouble they are just demanding food for their families. All of their plants are gone and the water has gone, they have no source of food.
In Nevada, protestors gathered to blockade access to the Creech Air Force base. The Air force base is one of the many lethal drone programs the U.S. Government funds and uses in Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Somalia. The protestors – who are adults as well as children – dressed as angels and performed a mock drone attack during a funeral on the air force base. As a result, over a dozen protestors wear arrested at the event however, over the course of the week a total of twenty-five wear arrested. These protestors are using resource mobilization theory in order to draw in massive number of people to support their movement. They continued to support their activism even when they were arrested and still continue to be tenacious on the issue. Their overall goal is to have the base closed down and ultimately to stop the drone program and the deaths in these countries.
