A Crude Awakening:
A crude awakening is a film that focuses on the important issue we as a society face globally concerning the overuse of petroleum oil. The film focuses on the high demand for oil to power everything we use and consume, and the dwindling supplies throughout the world concerning what to do once this non-renewable source runs out. Interviews from former CEO’s, oil investment bankers, and political scientists help emphasize the growing concern for consumption rates of oil compared to the little oil we have yet to tap. As it is we are extracting oil in costly ways, in ways similar to mining, which results in more energy and money being spent for very little oil being extracted. As the quality of life increases throughout the world, the demand for oil to power the consumers continues to drastically increase. There is no way for us a global nation to reduce our demand in order to meet and sustain the needs of the people by strictly using oil. Society as a whole globally speaking needs to shift its focus from depending solely on oil to investing and expanded renewable energy sources such as hydrogen-powered cars, hemp, etc. If we don’t put more focus on developing new ideas, the issue of where to drill will continue to rise, resulting in higher tensions throughout the world in an attempt for the U.S. to secure more oil for an ever-growing consuming society. This has proven an issue in the past through struggles from the U.S. in other nations such as Kuwait in an attempt to secure oil drills. If we don’t consider options and continue to consume oil at the pace we are, the reality of us running out will become a reality that we can’t ignore.
