Prior to the March Forth on March Fourth event, my group and I tried to gather as much information as we could about the topic of hunger. We created fliers with some statistics on hunger, as well as some places they may volunteer. The board that we received was decorated with our names and some of the fliers. We also added more statistics we found that compared job insecurity and food insecurity. We attempted to create a banner for the front of our table, but had no luck getting it to stat. The only problem that we had with out board is that it kept getting knocked over because of the wind. Being set up in the free speech area, there were a lot of people walking around during the time of our tabling. Many people walked through and turn their heads to see what we were doing, but few stopped to talk. One of the first people we spoke to was a young student who seemed rather interested in our topic. We were successful in getting him to sign our email list. A few other guys stopped to read our board. I spoke to one girl who grew up in Fresno, but was shocked to hear that Fresno was once ranked as the 5th hungriest metro in the nation. It was great that Dr. Kubal offered his other classes extra credit to attend, because those who attended took time to talk to us. I also think that the refreshments table was nice because it offered an incentive for people to stop. I do wish that we had more time to decorate our boards; we could have added more pictures and colors as to attract more people. Tabling was a very interesting experience and I had never done anything like it before. It helped me realize that I am capable of having a conversation with and informing complete strangers on topics that interest me.
