Tactic: Movie showing; A Place at the Table

For one of our tactics our group AHHH (A Helping Hand for the Hungry) presented on May 1st the film A Place at the Table in room I.T. 101.  Our group chose this film because it informed the viewer about the rise and severity of food insecurity in the United States.  The film provided data that showed the relationship between food insecurity, food malnutrition, obesity, and income level.  To inform people on campus about the movie our group created a flyer that included the location, date, and time of the event.  Everyone in our group (AHHH) was responsible for distributing flyers that advertised our movie event.  I hanged a few flyers on the Profession Services building. I was able to hang about five flyers on buildings walls and hand out five flyers to students personally.  When I handed out flyers to students I came across I was pleased that some students already thought hunger is a serious social issue in Fresno county.  Most (4) students I came across informed me that the time of the movie event conflicted with their schedule.

The outcome of the movie event was not too good.  There were few people who showed up to our movie event and the majority of the people who came to the movie were people in our group.  This is why there was not much discussion after the documentary.  A longer discussion would have occurred if more people had attended the documentary showing.  Since not many people went to this event, this event did not do well in reinforcing or even altering people's opinion.  There were several things we could have done to increase the awareness of our event.  We should have distributed more flyers to students ahead of time (at least a two weeks notice).  Also, each individual in our group should have brought more friends to this event.  I expect that by doing this in the future would increase the awareness of the hunger and food insecurity issue in Fresno County.
