Chalking Event

4/9/16

Social 122

Food For All

In some of our nonviolent direct action strategy, and, tactics we used the chalking method. Each of us used our own way of chalking method to bring our cause in a way so the public, and students will be educated in a different avenue than yelling or passing out flyers. This method is called indirect action. Our group which consist of Karen, Lori, Andres, and myself chose to participate with each other because in doing so identify who we are and that way our group will be able to be strong and function in a way to address our social movement. We reflect in what we believe, what we are comfortable with, what we like, and who we are. We began a few months ago on this movement of food insecurity and to explain and show how this does not decimate against any race, color, age, or income we are all effect by this one way or other, or know someone who is in a stage of food insecurity.

Furthermore to show how this food insecurity affects all of us we set out and began to chalk in the free speech, library, and the surrounding area of the booths at Fresno State. We gave some examples of what percent of students, men, and women with children, homeless, and this affects the elderly. I felt that we did a great job in giving out information on this issue and we be pleased to do it again during this semester.

During the next day, I did observer some students reading our chalking one the sidewalk.

In regards to how to make improvements, one of the things that I would do is to write this chalking early in the morning instead of late in the afternoon, in which there should be more students present at the university. Second improvement is that I would like to see us go out on to the sidewalks on the main streets of the university and chalk on each corner.

In conclusion I felt that the chalking campaign went very well considering that we only did it with chalk. Second thing our group knew a head of time on what to chalk because of our meetings and brainstorming
