Social Movement Tactic Write Up
As the semester is wrapping up, the SAFE (Students Against Fossil Fuel Extraction) group is raising awareness of the cause extensively. On Monday, 4/28, our group sponsored a documentary showing to Fresno State students and the general public. The documentary we agreed on choosing was "Heat" frontline investigation by PBS. It emphasizes the role of fossil fuels into damaging our environment. The documentary also explained the possibilities of alternative energy for electricity and transportation. The wide political aspect of the issue was also touched on. The group created a flyer, which was emailed out to students as an invitation to the event. However, we did not get the outcome we were hoping for. Four students showed up to the event and participated in the discussion following. Our group led the discussion by answering questions and giving feedback to those who were interested in the topic. One of the attendees was truly enthusiastic about the issue. The individual admitted that the documentary will result of him taking the possible steps to save the environment. That is what our group's mission statement implies. Everyone should take the small steps within their abilities to save our planet. Convincing one person at a time, we will make a difference in our planet. There were few points that we could have done differently. Each of the group members should have tried to bring a couple of friends or coworkers to the event. We should have had a larger outcome than what we had. Although overall I think our event went well.
