Method 2: Protest March

March 4th was a day I'm sure our whole class can say was a great experience.  March forth on March fourth was a catchy phrase we used on the flyer for our class event. A numerous amounts of flyers were posted around campus by our class.  We gathered as a class along with other students that had joined us, and we made posters outlining the awareness for our cause. For a little over an hour we marched around campus and down Shaw Ave.  When we first began the march in the free speech area a lot of students were starring at us, some were pointing at what we were doing and others questioning what our posters said. When we hit Shaw Ave I was able to see the reactions of a lot of people's faces. Many people looked confused and were trying to read what the posters said while driving. One thing that I wish our class would have done more of was chanting. We had planned it but in the end it rarely happened. If we would have been chanting more then maybe people would have better understanding of the causes that we were protesting. But overall the march went great.  There was over 40 people in the march with us which was a good amount of students supporting the causes of our groups.

I have never been in any type of social movement like this which was a great experience. I was able to see what it's like to break a social norm with a group of people. It was a new experience to actually stand up for something I believe in by participating in the march. The posters that my group carried all were simple and stated to end animal abuse and to "fight for paws" which is our group's name. It is obvious that animals can not speak and it was a good feeling to know that my group was being a voice for the unheard.
