Democracy Now! Week of March 31

Right to Return: Deported After Protest by His Family, Mexican Immigrant to Attempt U.S. Re-entry” aired on April 1, 2014, was an interview with a guy who was deported back to Mexico. Jaime Valdez says that he was mistakenly detained, because he was mistaken for a criminal.  For that his family took part in a hunger strike and because of that strike he was deported back to Mexico. Valdez is now trying to enter the United States again because he says that he has lived in Arizona for 15 years and all his family is in Arizona therefor he has the right to enter to the U.S. He wants people to hear him and for Obama and the government to hear him and understand him. There are many other immigrants that get mistaken for a criminal and get deported back to there place of origin, and personally I think it is unfair because people like him are not hurting anyone, they aren’t causing any harm they just want to be with their family and work to provide their family with what they need. “Drugging America’s Veterans: Painkiller Abuse Spreads as VA Becomes Vets’ "Drug Dealer of Choice"” was aired on April 4, 2014 and was about how the VA hospitals prescribe veterans so much medication for everything and that is causes addiction. These veterans have gone trough so much and they end up killing themselves, like U.S. Army Specialist Jeffrey Wagoner who was prescribed pain killers, and muscle relaxers by the VA and passes away because of overdose. The VA is not taking into consideration the amount of trauma that these veterans have gone trough and how prescribing them so much medication can cause them harm instead of good.
