                                          Movement Tactic: Social Media

            The media tactic my group against animal abuse did was on the social media website that is called Instagram. So many people are now aware of what is occurring through our social media. Many people sometimes hear about what news are occurring by just logging on to their computer. By creating this page we were able to inform those people who are close to us such as friends and family members to be aware of animal abuse that goes on locally. We are able to show pictures with statistics of the animals who are abuse and who are also being put down due to shelters not having enough space. Our goal by creating this Instagram page is to stop the number of animals being put down on the daily basis and also to inform people about those shelters who provide low cost on neutering and spaying for dogs and cats. Many people are not aware of that when shelters do not have enough room for other animals they have to put them to sleep. This occurs a lot through out the whole year. We are able to raise awareness to our family and friends throughout this media page. Each person in my group told at least one friend to add our page and I have also told many of my family members to follow our page. I think by doing this we can have a bigger number of people aware of animal abuse here in Fresno and they can be aware of the effect of not having our animals neutered or spayed can have.

Method 5:Chalking

For our groups chalking assignment we went around the free speech area chalking about animal rights issue. One of the main things we chalked about was about ending BSL which is a legislation that would ban specific breeds of dogs from cities, counties, or states. The legislation would also demand the owner of the pet to purchase liability insurance that ranges from 100-500 thousand dollars. From the posts that I have seen on our Instagram page for our animal rights group it seems that the breed of dogs they are specifically trying to ban are pitbulls. We chalked the hashtag

Method 4: Tabling

                On March 4^th along with all our other classmates an event was put together to help raise awareness for the causes of our social groups. My group was the animal rights group and as the media liaison I got to design and create all the flyers that we were going to pass out. Two of the main issues that I feel are important in the Central Valley with animal abuse are the amount of kill shelters that there are and the lack of pet owners knowledge of pet services out there. So I decided to create two flyers; one with information on 7 no kill shelters around the area of Fresno, Selma and Clovis area. The second flyer had information on low income services of spay and neutering and shot services of 3 areas in Fresno. I made sure all the information that I put down was accurate calling all the numbers and making sure they were places that still existed. I created another two additional flyers to pass out on March 4^th. One was our mission statement which stated that our group would help promote and educate proper placement for animals in the Central Valley. The other flyer was a chart of recent statistics on animal abuse in the United States as a whole. On all of the flyers I made sure I put our Instagram name at the bottom of the page so if people had questions they could follow us on there.

                On March 4^th our group was able to promote and pass out these flyers to people. For a good two hours we were tabling and conversing with people about our cause. I feel that we had a good outcome. A lot of people took the flyers about the low income spaying and neutering and the no kill shelter which to me was great because I knew these were the two issues that we have the most in the valley. This was the first event that I have ever participated in doing anything like this and I must say it was a great experience. It was a great opportunity to be a voice for our causes and I am sure all the groups in our class enjoyed it as well. It's a great way to meet new people and interact with others about issues that are important in society.

I am the media liaison of the group A.R.F./ Fighting For Paws and I decided to create an Instagram page for our group. What better way to raise awareness than to post images and share thoughts, right? J When I created the flyers for our event on March 4^th I included our Instagram page on all of the papers so people could follow us.  I have posted pictures that are eye catching with quotes on animal awareness. Some were picture of facts, others were pictures of abused animals, and in some pictures there were links for petitions that I would come across and help promote. For those that are familiar with hash tags a person can click on a hash tag or search for one and a bunch of pictures will show up. For the pictures I would post I would specifically use hash tags related to our group and to the topic of the image, like #stopanimalabuse, #protest #activism #animalabuseawareness and many other ones as well. The use of hash tags helped us get followers and people to like our picture which made me feel content because I know we are someway helping spread the awareness of animal abuse.

            It was interesting to get followers from other activism pages as well; together we are all helping spread the awareness of animal abuse which is an issue that many people over see. I shared the page on my personal account so that my family and friends could follow and keep up with my group. One thing I wish I would have done was created more social media accounts like maybe a Twitter and a Facebook. The reason why I chose Instagram was because I feel that hash tags and pictures are the fastest way to spread images and thoughts and I believe our group was able to achieve that.  In certain occasions I would come across an image that was somewhat promoting animal abuse and I would leave a comment that it wasn't right. Leaving comments on random people's pictures could have got me into dilemmas but I am glad it didn't and I am glad I was able to express my opinion on the cause of animal abuse.

     My animal rights group, A.R.F., put together a social media page so that people can also be informed through sources that are used every day. Our media person created an Instagram page for A.R.F. in which photos and statements can be posted for everyone to see. On our Instagram we have a picture of hurt animals along with our mission statement which shows what our group is working for. The way I contributed to this was by following it on my personal Instagram so that my friends that follow me, can also see our Fighting for Paws Instagram. I have also taken pictures to post on there to show us in action while we raise awareness for the better treatment of animals. Though making an Instagram was a good approach to inform more people, it could have been improved so that we would have more followers who could see our posts. To get a better outcome I could have posted our Fighting for Paws Instagram on my personal one so that more of my friends could also follow. We could have also created other social media accounts so that people who don't have Instagram are still able to be educated about what really goes on with animals. Another way we could have got better results was by telling our friends or family who we know have Instagram to follow us and inform others. Social media is so popular this generation and if we would have taken extra steps to inform people or just simply post pictures, I think many people would begin to agree with us when it comes to animal rights.
