Noam Chomsky: Climate Change and Nuclear Threats

This particular article criticizes the Obama administration in that he is now the longest president in history who has been at war. The fact that most of the public is unaware of this is a testament to the white house in how they frame current issues. Chomsky argues that people could rule the world but we have to struggle to achieve that, instead we have concentrations of power that decide things for us. Back in WWII most countries that participated in the war were devastated where as the U.S. prospered economically. This allowed the U.S. to dictate global economics but not anymore. Other countries are catching up and developing their own nuclear arms. As the threat of nuclear attacks and climate change rise, the acknowledgment from politicians is interesting in that some deny it and others frame it to look not as bad as it actually is.

Chomsky on Trumps Climate Denial

Leave it to Trump to stir the pot. Donald Trump vehemently denies that global warming exists and he actually points to Iran as a bigger threat due to their nuclear programs. The framing in his message is important because if you listen to him, Iran is the bad guy however, according to Chomsky, Iran is the leader in advocating for a nuclear free zone in the middle east. Further more, Chomsky, points to the republican party not signing a treaty that would regulate global warming… because we didn't sign the treaty, the treaty pretty much died. Even more alarming, according to global research done empirically, the world community considers the United States as the number one threat to global peace. The threat of Iran is an American obsession fueled by popular media outlets.
