On April 24th my animal rights group showed a film on Fresno State campus that was called "Black Fish." Before starting the film, me and another group member shared what our group was all about; trying to decrease the amount of harm that is done to animals. The movie was a documentary on the killer whales at Sea World and though not a lot of people showed up to watch it, those who did seemed to be very interested in it. After the documentary was over some people gave there input of what they thought about it and also asked questions to try to learn more. Their thoughts showed that the film left an impact on how they now see Sea World and other places that contain wild animals. Although there was not a lot of students who showed up I would say that it did turn out good, the ones that went felt motivated to go against the abuse that is done to whales in Sea World. The only thing that we could have worked harder on to bring in more people was to put flyers out days before and also write the information with chalk in the freedom speech area. I think we could have also made the flyers brighter so that when students pass by them, they stand out and catch their attention. Chalking the time, date, and room number for the film would have also helped a lot so that people who don't see the flyers posted can still see the announcement. Since this was my group's first time showing a documentary that is geared towards animal rights, we weren't exactly sure what to expect but in my opinion the response we got was positive. It seemed as if everyone in the room was moved by the film, especially because it showed the whole truth behind Sea World.
