Social Movements
Mon./Wed. 3:30pm
During the movement, March Forth on March Fourth, my group participated in raising awareness of issues that are over looked often. Our animal rights group worked together to inform students and campus visitors who came to our table and we also gathered signatures and emails to be able to send them more information. For it being our first activist movement it was successful, many people came to our table and we were able to share all the information we knew about animal shelters and statistics. It was surprising to hear how many people were searching for no kill shelters and what they thought about animal abuse. Those who came by our table seemed to be very interested in the information we gathered and also asked us questions to hear more about it all. On our table we had a poster that contained facts and statistics about animals and we also had our mission statement posted. By us having our mission statement on our poster board people were able to read what our group's motives are, which are to decrease the amount of animals who are abused or sent to kill shelters every day. In preparation for this event I helped put our poster board together; writing down facts and statistics that are overlooked often. The day of the event I helped set up our area and I also informed students who came by and attempted to answer their questions. I was also able to let them know about cheaper vaccinations on certain days for their pets. Many people who came by also shared a little about their pets and I was also able to share a little about mine also. All in all I think it was a successful event, several people were educated on the harsh realities of many animals and it was noticeable that they were moved by it.
