SAFE petition
One of our ongoing projects was the petition. The petition was to the president of students' affairs. The objective is to divest Fresno State form fossil fuels. CSUSF have already divested, instead they are investing in renewable energy stocks. Our school currently supports fossil fuels and the harms they bring simply because of the financial benefit involved in it. The group started the petition on Change.org, then collected signatures manually during school events and through people we are in contact with, I.E. work, etc. The process of collecting signatures have lasted over two months throughout the semester. I don't believe that this will succeed in divesting, but it is on more straw that will eventually contribute to breaking the camel's back. What is needed now is more straws, meaning more pressure towards the school officials to take such actions. The fact is that the bureaucracies benefiting from these investments are more powerful than students, but students have the higher numbers. A change is possible, as long as we don't give up. We have mailed a hard copy of our petition to whom it was intended for. We hope to receive a response from the college regarding our concerns. Our group will continue to bring awareness to our issue and together we will achieve justice to the planet.
