Tactic 7
Social movements are a in essence the propelled motion of the people. Enough people take notice of a issue they feel strongly about and get together to work it out. Those who start these movements are responsible for making the public aware of the issue. In this course our main focus is on understanding how social movements form. One of the most important aspects of social movements is communication and awareness between participants of the movement. It is a great feat to get as many people as possible active for your cause. In the course of the semester our group that decided to focus on sweatshops found that making an online awareness campaign would be instrumental to getting the word out about our cause and the facts surrounding sweatshops that made us interested in the first place. Everyone in the group had a part I myself started a Facebook campaign and got the message out that way; however, the group member we named the media liaison made a twitter page with many important information for any and all who see it. My part in this as stated was bringing to question the type of information shared there. As a group we organized a meeting to see what we might add on the site. Everyone had a chance to talk during this meeting and no one not even the media liaison had absolute power in the matter of what went on the site. I thought the facts gathered by us and our professor would be a great way to shock and awe many twitter participants to follow our cause and perhaps instill in them the same interest we took on. On my Facebook page I had a link and a statement that I felt portrayed accurately my stance on sweatshops. I found this tactic to be most useful in networking and making the public aware of my issue.
