Push Polling

Prior to completing this event I wasn't sure how push polling was going to turn out or even completely understand what the activity was. I wasn't sure what to expect from the push polling event. I did find it very interesting to be apart of. I wanted to know what people thought about food security and if anyone would be interested in participating. This information would be helpful to the mission of our group and help us to complete our goals in helping the community. I wasn't sure if I would receive a lot of willing participants because I know that people usually brush off voluntary surveys. Unfortunately I completed my two hours of push polling and didn't receive any answers. I think that lot of people were skeptical about answering unknown calls that are unexpected. I know that the point of push polling is to get the opinions of different types of people but I do think in order to get more people to cooperating we should be more specific. An example of this would be contacting random sociology, social work and psychology students. I think that these people are more interested in issues that we are covering in this course, and they seem like they wouldn't have a problem completing the questions. I also find that I will receive more feedback regarding the turn out of this event by discussing the outcomes that my other group members have received from their experience. By speaking with some of them I have already learned that they also have had trouble getting people to answer the phone or agree to take the survey. I do think that this experience was effective because it takes time to complete an assignment like this and I believe as long as you are persistent and patient you can achieve real results. Together as a group I am sure that we have obtained useful information regarding hunger and food security in our community. Overall I think this was a good learning experience for me because I have gotten a better understanding of what push polling is and the process we go through. By doing this assignment I also learned some ways that may possibly help me to be more successful in this process for future push polling.
