Thursday marked the 2 millionth deportations under the Obama administration. The article explains what the activists have been trying to accomplish. Their main goal is to get the Obama administration to stop deportations. Protestors took to the streets in over 60 cities across America in hopes that they will be able to deter more deportations. The problem identified by the protestors is that the deportations occurring now are overly severe. Most of the people being deported are being deported for minor crimes. These minor offenses tear apart families who have children living in America but broken apart by having a parent shipped back to where they came from. Protestors want immigration reform to deal with the harshness of today’s deportation standards.

The main problem is that there are over 11 million undocumented immigrants, this brings up the question: what do we do with them? The answer is difficult; we can either assimilate them or send them back. There are many proponents and opponents to the current immigration situation. Deportation is not something that has come up under the Obama administration. It is a long going process that is often unfairly and squarely put on the Obama administration.           There have been very big names that have been in support of immigration. A unlikely supporter, Republican Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, came out in support suggesting that immigrants don’t come to America strictly for work but out of love for their families.

This article brings to light the efforts in by professors in Harvard to convince the university to divest in investment of fossil fuel companies. Harvard has 32 billion dollars invested in the fossil fuel industry and as Harvard is such a leading university it is ideal for them to pull out. The professors want Harvard to lead the charge in universities divesting in the fossil fuel industry. The reason this is such a big deal is because the professors are concerned about climate change. They do not want the university to help fossil fuel companies destroy the environment. The professors are trying to claim that it is Harvard duty to be independent change leaders.

The counter point that arises is that universities do not want their financial interests to be taken as political tools. Divestment is not only happening in Harvard, it has branched out to over 500 universities around America. For Harvard to join the movement it would give the movement even more strength to convince others to follow. It is also claimed by protestors that colleges and universities should be teaching kids about climate change. Students in this age should know what they can do to help with climate change. It is important for these schools to help guide the future of climate change. The students of now are going to be the scientists of tomorrow so they need to be taught new principles. Divesting in climate change is important, because it brings to light climate change and the negative impact these companies are having on the world as a whole.
