Democracy Now #4

March 4th: One of the stories is about how there have been incidences of U.S. border agents that have been abusing their power and are shooting civilians. The tactic that is used to justify these shootings is that the agents step in front of the vehicles and then shoot. They believe that if they are in front of the car then it is reasonable to use the excuse that the car was not stopping and they were forced to shoot. The investigations of these types of cases were when released to congress had many key factors missing from the reports. This was an attempt to keep these incidences under the radar. There were recommendation made along with this investigation and they included: them not shooting at cars unless they were really posing a threat and attempted to kill agents, also stopping agents from firing at people who throw things at them but things that cant cause real harm. These recommendations were rejected when the government viewed the report.  Another incident that relates to this type of behavior is an incident that occurred in January. A migrant in Arizona was shot and killed. At the time before the shooting the victim was on his knee but the agent stated that he lunged for his gun, therefore he was shot. Another interesting story in this episode of Democracy Now was one that takes place in Mexico. Hospitals in Mexico are being accused of refusing help to indigenous women. There have been several cases that demonstrate that these women are not being properly cared for. One incident lead to the death of a woman that had giving birth but died due to an infection because scissors were left inside of her uterus. Another incident that brings suspicion to these hospitals is where one woman was refused services and later gave birth in a bathroom nearby. Aside from these there have been other reports that women have given birth on both the lawns and steps of hospitals multiple times.
