In the article " A Coup or a Revolution?" it gives insight on the chaos that is taking place in Ukraine. After months of street protest and the death of 82 people, Ukraine's parliament voted to remove president Viktor Yanukovych. After his removal, Viktor Yanukovych made it clear in a statement that his removal was that of a coup, and that he would not resign. The former president is also being charged with the death of the 82 innocent protesters. The article also states that a added dimension to the crisis in Ukraine is that Russia has stated that it is against the removal of Viktor Yanukovych, while the rest of Europe is in support for Ukraine's decision on a new government. Mean while the country of Ukraine is in economic turmoil. Ukraine is receiving help from the European Union Foreign Policy Chief to help get the country back into economic stability. Also until elections are held on May 25th, the country has a interim president named Oleksander Turchynov. The article shows the power of protest, and with enough people on the side to fight the injustice, change can take place.
The other article I found to be extremely interesting is titled, "Protests Call for Release of Al Jazeera Journalists Jailed in Egypt." The article states that in over 30 countries people are protesting for the support of the freedom of the captive journalist. Not only have protests in the streets of many countries brought attention to the cause, the use of social media has become a new tool for protest groups to get spread their message world wide within minutes. The twitter hash tag freeAJStaff has been trending world wide in support of the journalists. The journalists are being held for what Egypt is calling aiding a "terrorist organization." The treatment of the journalists has also been documented by a wife of one of the journalists. She stated that, "Abdullah should be treated like a journalist, but they are not treating him on this basis."
